About A Lost Summer

2009-2014

Sopra una perduta estate ( About a lost summer ) is the title of a a short book by the writer and poet Francesco Leonetti.
Published in 1942, it originally was made up of only 12 poems; simple verses "in which the urgency for love exceeds the melancholy of what is lost”.
Using the same simplicity, the same urgency, this photographic project progresses, sometimes adhering to the poet’s verse, and sometimes not, but always staying in tune with it..
These photographs capture the theme of memory, the melancholic remembrance of what has been irretrievably lost.
Recollections that live not with hopeless nostalgia, however are abjectly aware that the flower which blooms today, will wither tomorrow.
